  • Azadirachta indica, commonly known as neem, nimtree or Indian lilac, and in Nigeria called dogoyaro or dogonyaro.
  • It is one of two species in the genus Azadirachta, and is native to the Indian subcontinent and most of the countries in Africa. 
  • Neem is a member of the mahogany family, Meliaceae. It is today known by the botanic name Azadirachta indica A. Juss.

Benefits?

  • Neem leaves have anti-bacterial properties.
  • Neem leaves contain nimbin, nimbolide, nimandial and over 130 various biologically active compounds that help enhance over all health of a human body.
  • Neem is rich in: fatty acids, limonoids, vitamin E, triglycerides, antioxidants., calcium.
  • Neem leaves include protein , carbohydrates , minerals, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin C, carotene etc. But they also contain glutamic acid, tyrosine, aspartic acid, alanine, praline, glutamine and cysteine like amino acids, and several fatty acids.

Uses?

  • Boil about 20 neem leaves in half a liter of water till the leaves are soft and discolored, and the water turns green. Strain and store in a bottle.
  • Dip a cotton-ball into it and wipe your face.
  • Apply a paste of neem powder, tulsi and sandalwood powder mixed with rose water, on your face.
